University of Udine

The University of Udine is a relatively young institution, as it was founded in 1978 as part of the reconstruction plan of Friuli after the earthquake in 1976. Its aim was to provide the regional community with an independent centre for advanced training in cultural and scientific studies. However, in a short matter of time it grew to an important centre for a number of fields, such as Agriculture, Economics, Engineering, Law, Foreign Languages, Education, Humanities, Medicine and Surgery, Veterinary Science and Mathematical, Physical and Natural Sciences. Moreover, it is an internationally renown centre for film studies, being host of the International Conference on Film Studies since 1992, offering a path-breaking MA program in Audiovisual Heritage and New Media and a Ph.D. program in Art History and Film Studies, and being part of the Master of Arts-Erasmus Mundus program in Euroculture: Society, Politics and Culture in a Global Context.
